The Incarnation Fund for BIPOC Healing

What is the Incarnation Fund?

New City Church believes that God is calling Minneapolis to be a city where all tribes are welcomed in, there is no more violence, and the whole earth is renewed. We care about healing justice, meaning, healing our bodies as we heal our neighborhood and systems. 

We started  The Incarnation Fund to financially support people of color in accessing (1) spiritual direction, (2) therapy, especially somatic experiencing, and (3) nature-based therapy. In our community research, we found that people of color almost never have affordable access to practitioners of color of any of these types of support.

The name of this fund came from God’s commitment to embodied healing, as exemplified by the embodiment of God in Jesus (“Incarnation”).

We are choosing to focus on BIPOC because we believe that Jesus intentionally centered marginalized people and empowered them to share their unique blessings with the community. We do not approach the Incarnation Fund as “charity” or a “handout,” rather we believe that we will never find collective liberation until BIPOC bodies find healing--and that is good news for all people.

The Incarnation Fund is for BIPOC community members. Folks already connected to New City will be prioritized, but all BIPOC community members are encouraged to apply. There is no income (or lack of income) requirement. In fact, sometimes people with income and insurance apply not to use Incarnation Fund dollars but to be part of a cohort of BIPOC folks pursuing healing.

Incarnation Cohort Benefits

Every year, we will select cohorts of 3 people to participate in a 9-month experience between September-May:

  • Three retreats with nature-based therapy exercises

  • Biweekly therapy sessions (we especially recommend somatic experiencing, or trauma therapy)

  • Monthly spiritual direction sessions

  • Regularly meeting with the cohort to discuss progress
